Saint Patty's and the past week of beer

What has been going on since my last post? Well I had a couple of meals worth of Guinness, some green Bud Light Lime and a very TERRIBLE Michelada. Note to self (and all beer lovers): DO NOT make a Michelada with Bud Light Lime. It goes terribly wrong. Imagine having a piece of key lime pie with hot sauce all over it. Don't do it! What the hell a Michelada is will be further duscussed and photographed in an upcoming blog.

Now, about this Guinness dinner I had on St. Patrick's Day... It was, for some reason, one of the better Guinness pours I've had. I also tore the can open to take out the widget, which is the little plastic sphere that assists in giving Guinness its thick head.

Preceding and Following this Irish deliciousness, I had some green Bud Light Lime. Of course, it wouldn't normall be my first choice, but it was the only light-enough beer in the house to color green, and well, it's still pretty tastey.

Next up, you'll find out all about Micheladas.

Cheers!

Beer Cheddar Bread!

I tried a new recipe a couple of nights ago. The beer cheese bread turned out pretty tastey. I used magic hat beer; any weaker brew probably wouldn't have been as flavorful. It's a fairly dense bread, good for grilling or toasting. I added some herbs and spices to it, which the recipe didn't call for.

I'm not sure who's reading this, if anyone, but here's the recipe:

2 cups all purpose flour
2 tbsp. sugar
1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 12 oz. beer at room temperature
1 cup shredded cheddar
1 tsp. time
1 tbsp. basil
1 tbsp. oregano
tbsp. butter, sea salt, pepper and grated parmasian cheese for topping

Preheat oven at 450 degrees. Combine flour, sugar, baking soda, beer, 3/4 cup of cheddar cheese, time, basil and oregano. Pour into greased bread pan. Bake for 35 minutes. Butter the top of the bread and sprinkle salt, pepper, remaining cheddar and parmasian cheese on top and bake for an additional 10 minutes. Remove from the oven and let cool before cutting.

Again, this could be used for sandwiches, grilling, toasting, croutons or whatever you want. Enjoy!

Beginning a Beer Adventure

Hey Bloggers!

I recently wrote an article for Ohio State's student newspaper, which covered the world of beer in Columbus, Ohio. Today, beer has become a complex art; a conniseur's pastime. I've noticed the obscurity beer can behold. Sure, when I'm out with friends for the night, I'll drink a Bud Light, but there is so much more to beer. I've decided to make a game for myself; A game of what outrageous flavors can I come across? What recipes can I try?

So far, I have had the following beer flavors:

Watermelon
Appricot
Blueberry
Blackberry
Cranberry
Banana Bread
Pumpkin
Strawberry
Lime
Orange
Chocolate

In my research, I came across a few other flavors I'd love to try if only I could get my hands on them. My No. one goal is to get my hands on a bottle of Mamma Mia! Pizza Beer. Other obscurities in my findings include Oyster, Tomato and Creme Brulee beers (not all mixed together, of course).

Mamma Mia! Pizza beer, I will find a bottle of you!
